COLLABORATIVE PROJECT FAQs

​What might this collaborative performance event look like?
​
Imagine you are a dancer and you have been partnered with a DivaNation jazz singer and a artist, a painter perhaps. Together you might create a performance piece where you work from a old jazz standard (like "Lush Life") telling a story through song and art and dance. Perhaps it is a sad story and the painting evokes the feelings of the person that the song is about. Perhaps the dancer tells the story through movement and the artist’s painting is in response to that movement. Perhaps you will all write and create something completely new together? There are so many ways this could go and the final creative works are sure to be exciting and surprising.
The show itself will be a series of performances, one by each partnership group. Some participants may end up in more than one group.

When will the Fall Performance event be held?
The date is yet to be determined but we are targeting the fall of 2017. There may actually be a series of these events so if you miss the first round, there may be another.

We may also hold an other mixer for those who missed the first one.

Where will the event be held?
The event venue is yet to be determined. We are looking for a large gallery & performance space in Philadelphia.
I'm not a singer or a visual artist - how can I get involved?
Participation is open to other forms of art - design, poetry, storytelling - anything creative! If you think your “art” might mesh will in a jazz performance piece - we’d love to have you join us!
There are also opportunities for you to share your other gifts with us. We would welcome participation from anyone interested in supporting the creative process. Contact us with your ideas.
I'm an artist - do I get to pick who I will work in partnership with?
We’re matchmaking participants based on their interests in one another and also through thoughtful assignments. When you register for the project you can let us know if you are comfortable working with anyone or if you want to work with someone in particular. We’ll do our best to make everyone happy!
When will I be matched with creative partner/s?
The first round of partnerships for the event will be announced the spring of 2017.

What happens after I am matched with creative partner/s?
All confirmed participants will be notified via telephone and/or email once partnership teams are chosen. Afterwards, creative teams are encouraged to negotiate their own schedule of meetings and rehearsals in order to create and or solidify their performances.
How long in duration should performances be?
There will be one performance piece per team - approximately 5 minutes in duration.?

Is there a participation fee for this event?
This is a volunteer collaborative project, so there is no fee to participate.

Can I sell my work, my CDs at the spring event? Adverse my shows?
Yes, of course! We’ll set up tables for this at the spring event.
What's in it for me?
Collaboration is a great way to grow as an artist, meet new people, expand your audience, and form new creative relationships! This is a chance to step outside of your box and dance around in a new creative space!
